Car parks price fury

Guardian News

Motorists and businesses have slammed Bassetlaw Council’s plan to raise hourly car parking rates.

Amongst widespread changes - recommended at a council cabinet meeting last Thursday - new charges will see a 25 per cent increase for an all day visit in long stay car parks across the district.

The authority say the hike will help towards maintaining its 15 car parks across Worksop and Retford, as well as pay for free cinema parking.

But leader of the Conservative party, councillor Mike Quigley, said it would put people off coming into town.
