Police responding to reports of a man with an axe discovered cannabis instead, Worksop Magistrates’ Court heard.

Officers found Lewis Marsden, 21, of Gateford Road, at his home with a small amount of the drug.

Prosecutor Ruth Snowdin said police attended the area after reports of a male walking down the street with an axe in his hands. They found Marsden, who matched the man’s description, with cannabis on him, but no axe.

Defence solicitor David Verity said Marsden occasionally uses cannabis.

Marsden pleaded guilty to drug possession. A charge of possessing a knuckle duster in a public place was withdrawn by the prosecution.

He must pay a £50 fine, £20 surcharge and £20 costs.
