Big cash boost for scarecrow festival

THE Ranskill and Torworth Village and Scarecrow Festival has received a generous financial boost – ensuring it will be bigger and better this year.

The Notts Community Foundation has given 2,680 from its grassroots grants programme towards the cost of the event.

Festival committee chairman Dave Hill said: “The foundation’s very generous support means that this year’s festival will be bigger and better than ever.”

”Each year we have to raise thousands of pounds just to stage it, and this major cash boost means we can plan more attractions than ever before.”

The festival is being held on 12th and 13th June and links with the St Barnabas’ Parish Church Flower Festival.

It will include Picnic in the Park with popular group The Stormbeats, Ranskill’s own vocalist Terry Williams and children’s favourite Mr Magic.

New attractions will be the Acapella Steel Band, a team of circus performers, the Salvation Army Band, the Worksop Miners’ Welfare Band, a car boot sale and a family sports day.

Mr Hill added: “It will cost more than 4,000 to stage this year’s festival.”

“This is the kind of money we have had to raise each year for it to take place and we are extremely grateful to the foundation for helping us to meet this financial commitment.”

“This year we are determined to exceed our target of 100 scarecrows around the villages of Ranskill and Torworth. We almost made it last year with more than 90 on display.”

“We are planning additional attractions for the Sunday, making it a real two-day festival for everyone to join in and enjoy.”

A spokesman for the Notts Community Foundation said: “We are delighted to be able to award this grant to the Ranskill and Torworth Village and Scarecrow Festival and we support them in the work they are doing in their community.”

“Notts Community Foundation is all about supporting people to find local solutions to local problems by distributing money to people who will make a difference for the future.”
