Bassetlaw paralympic rugby star to switch on Christmas lights
AFTER weeks of waiting, the line-up for this year's Christmas switch-on has been announced.
Bassetlaw's own Paralympic rugby star, Troye Collins, will switch on the Christmas lights in Worksop on Tuesday 25th November and in Retford on Tuesday 2nd December.
During both switch-on events, strolling face painters and balloon sculptors will be on hand to add some extra fun for the children.
There will also be carol singing courtesy of Redlands Primary School, as well as a Bassetlaw Hospice Charity Market and a small funfair in the Market Place.
Town centre manager Russell Slater said visitors could also expect some more unusual guests at both events.
"To increase their lustre, both events will have additional attractions," he said.
"In Worksop, Harry Potter and Dumbledore will be on hand to entertain with magic demonstrations. Retford's switch on will feature live reindeer, pulling Santa's sled."
Troye will switch on Worksop's lights at 7pm, following the Civic Ceremony at 6.15pm. There will also be a Trax FM roadshow held in the market place with all the fun kicking off at 5pm.
He will switch on Retford's lights at the Market Square at 7pm, after the 6.15pm Civic Ceremony. Trax FM will do a roadshow and there will be carol singing from Carr Hill Primary School.
There will also be a Contintental Market held in Retford on the evening of the light switch-on.
This will move to Worksop on Wednesday 3rd December before returning to Retford on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
