A NORTH Anston man has been jailed for eight months for using counterfeit money to buy pizza.

Nathan McEvoy admitted possessing and using counterfeit money when he appeared at Rotherham Magistrates’ Court last week.

The 22-year-old of Windermere Court, used the notes to pay for pizza delivered from a Dinnington pizza shop.

In a police interview McEvoy said he had purchased eight counterfeit £20 notes for £10 each, knowing that they were counterfeit.

He further admitted to officers that two of these counterfeit notes were passed to the pizza shop in exchange for the delivery of pizza.

Police Constable Mick Fletcher said: “This type of offence undermines the economy.”

“The courts can only pass a strong deterrent when assessing the length of the sentence.”
