3,000 less victims of crime in our region

IT was heartwarming to see the excellent turnout for the Remembrance Day parade on Sunday.

Certainly, the rain didn’t deter people from attending.

Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Richard Hassett, noted that there were more people at the Cenotaph this year than in previous years. It was a moving event and we shouldn’t lose sight of the sacrifices made in times past and, indeed, still being made around the globe today.

The number of crimes recorded in Nottinghamshire between April and June this year fell by 3,000, compared with the same period in 2008. That in real terms means 3,000 less victims of crime across the county. Burglary, car crime and criminal damage all saw reductions, which is really rewarding as it is these types of crimes that have a serious impact on people’s quality of life.

Crime reduction happens as a result of multi-agency initiatives and you, the public, also share a huge portion of the credit.

Your calls to Crimestoppers are catching criminals and bringing them to justice. Your information is making a difference. Also, taking on board the crime reduction advice given to you through many channels, including in the Guardian each week, in your local newsletter, or on the radio and television – please take it seriously. I pass on advice to keep you safer and the more of you that can help to reduce the opportunity for crime will mean we can continue to reduce crime year on year.

If you would like to know more about what the force is doing, we have now launched a new external newspaper for the public called Policing for You.

It lets you know the latest news and about different intiatives happening across the county to make your communities safer. If you would like a copy posting to your home, wherever you live in the county, please email news@nottinghamshire.pnn.police.uk or simply log on to the Nottinghamshire Police website www.nottinghamshire.police.uk , where it is available to read online.
