Budding Novak Djokovic’s and Petra Kvitova’s can now pratice their skills in refurbished tennis courts in Retford.
Bassetlaw Council has invested £45,000 in the Kings’ Park courts as part of its continuing investment in the Green Flag awarded park.
The new courts have been built on a stone base replacing the original ash base that has collapsed due to tree root damage. The green and red courts have been re-fenced, painted and marked as well as benefiting from enhanced root protection measures.
The courts are now available free of charge for the rest of the season during normal park opening hours. The council hopes this will encourage more people to get active.
“Following two fantastic weeks of Tennis at Wimbledon I hope that people feel inspired to get out on the courts,” said Coun Julie Leigh, portfolio holder for environment and leisure.
“Whether it’s for a knockabout or a proper game, the new courts are a great addition to King’s Park.”
“Future champions all have to start some somewhere and I am delighted that as a council we can provide the facilities and opportunities for residents to become more active, more often.”
