Residents planning street parties to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee have just a few days left to apply to Notts County Council.

So far over 100 communities have expressed an interest in holding a street party over the June double bank holiday weekend.

People are being advised to register their event through the authority’s online form on its special Diamond Jubilee web pages, by Monday 30th April.

The authority also needs to be informed about special circumstances, such as if carers need exemptions from temporary traffic orders when they are granted for street party locations.

Peter Goode, county council traffic manager, said: “We are delighted at the interest already generated in street parties.”

“Once people have applied online we will send out further information and request additional detail which we need each community to provide to enable us to finalise and approve their application.”

The council’s highways team also needs to assess if a basic road closure or more is appropriate.

Once applications have been approved, the council will arrange to deliver traffic cones and road signs to organisers during the week before the event, and arrange for collection afterwards.

Cabinet member for transport and highways, Coun Richard Jackson said: “People had a taste of street celebrations last year and with more days in which to celebrate with the Bank Holidays we expect there will be a lot of demand for organising street parties.”

“We aim to get rid of red tape and are keen to work with communities to help them lay on their celebrations but we do advise people to get in touch as early as possible so we can help with the organisation of their particular event.”
