THE DOORS are being thrown open at Bassetlaw Hospice next month for the public to have a look around.

On Saturday 8th October the Retford based hospice is inviting people to see first hand the service and facilities available for the community.

The event also marks World Hospice and Palliative Care Day which raises awareness of the needs of people living with a life limiting illness and their families.

Every two years events are organised across 70 different countries to celebrate and support the work of the hospice movement, bringing together patients, families, health care professionals, policy makers and funders.

The following seven days is also Hospice Care Week with a national campaign called ‘be surprised’ highlighting the work of UK hospices.

Members of the public are invited to Bassetlaw Hospice, North Road, Retford to meet nursing staff and volunteers over light refreshments, and hear first hand the type of service and facilities available.

Charity administrator Ian Hall said: “The theme for this year’s Hospice Care Week is ‘be surprised’ and we are hoping this will be the reaction of people at our open day.”

“There is so much more to the service than people think.”

“The local community created the hospice and they continue to generously support the charity, this is a great chance to see the facilities first hand.”

There will be three tours available at 10.30am, 1pm and 2.30pm. Places are limited, so anyone interested should book a place as soon as possible.

The talk and tour will last about one hour and include light refreshments.
