More than 100 MPs have now added their support for my Parliamentary Motion calling for more to be done to protect African elephants.
An African elephant is killed every 15 minutes for its ivory.
One charity has taken up my suggestion to work with schools in our area on an art project and thank you to all schools who have taken part.
Nicky Campbell and Joanna Lumley have been working on the campaign and I will continue to push the Government to sort out the ivory market in the UK.
My motion in Parliament is one of the most supported motions of that type and shows how important wildlife is to the British public.
Almost 40 years ago, Anthony Dykes was a serving member of the British army doing his duty when he was shot by the IRA in Belfast.
His parents, who still live locally, are campaigning for a national memorial for those who fought for the British Army in Northern Ireland.
They rightly point out that there are memorials for other campaigns carried out by the military and they believe that there should be a similar monument for soldiers like their son.
I fully support their campaign and have written to the Prime Minister asking for her to put the wheels in motion
I will keep readers updated as I know that a number of local people will feel as strongly as Mr and Mrs Dykes do about this.
For more than a decade I have organised an annual veterans’ event to pay tribute to former and serving members of the armed forces.
This year the event will take place on Friday, June 23 at St Augustine’s Primary School in Worksop.
The children plan to do a display of photographs of veterans when they were younger with family and friends.
If you would like any photos of you or your family to be included, call me on 01909 506200 and then bring them to my office on Stanley Street in Worksop.
I will then make copies for the school and return the originals to you promptly.
I will be contacting the local veterans I know nearer the time to give further details.
But if you would like to be included or know anyone who would please get in touch by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
