A Paralympic silver medalist who inspires her carer every day with her “generosity, bravery and sense of humour” has been honoured with a Guardian Rose.

Zoe Edge, who has cerebral palsy, was presented with the award at a surprise ceremony at her Worksop home this week.

The 41-year-old was nominated by her carer, Joanne Collins, who shares a strong bond with Zoe after caring for her for four years.

Joanne said: “Zoe only has the use of her thumb and has to communicate with others through a computer- but she baffles me every day with her achievements.

“She is a huge Chesterfield FC fan and recently raised £3,500 for their Trust Fund, as well as £3,500 for Fountaindale School in Mansfield which she previously attended.

“Zoe is currently raising money for Ernie Moss, a former Chesterfield FC player who suffers from dementia.”

Joanne said she also continues to be “amazed” by the fact that Zoe is a Paralympic champion- taking home the silver medal for Boccia in the 1996 games.

Joanne added: “When it comes to Zoe’s mind, you wouldn’t know she is disabled.

“She’s sharp as anything and has a fabulous sense of humour.

“She certainly keeps me on my feet and I love my time with her. My job is very rewarding.

“The presentation went brilliantly- Zoe didn’t have a clue.

“It was so nice to let her know how much she is admired.”

Our Guardian Roses are generously donated by Walker’s House of Flowers, based in the Priory Shopping Centre.

The award continues to highlight the fantastic work being done in our community.
