Teenagers from Gainsborough who took part in the National Citizen Service programme throughout the summer have now graduated.

National Citizen Service (NCS) programme is for 15 to 17-year-olds who spent four weeks giving back to their local community, enhancing their employability and making friends.

This year more than 800 teenagers from across Lincolnshire and Rutland signed up to the programme.

Phil Everett, Communications Manager for NCS EM1, which delivers the scheme to teens in Lincolnshire, Rutland, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire, said: “This year’s NCS programme was our most successful one yet, with more than 800 teens from the county spending over 24,000 hours giving back to their community by undertaking fundraising and refurbishment projects.”

“We couldn’t be happier for all the amazing young people that took part this summer because, by graduating from NCS, teenagers not only gain lifelong memories, but also give themselves a competitive edge since the programme looks great on CVs and job or university applications.”

Graduation ceremonies for the summer programme were held in Lincoln to celebrate the completion of the programme, during which graduates received a certificate signed by the Prime Minister.

For young people that were unable to take part this summer, NCS is still taking sign-ups for its Autumn programme.

This is set to start on 24th October.

The intake costs £35 to join and includes a four-day stay at an outdoor adventure centre with activities such as rock-climbing and archery, three days working with businesses to improve employability skills and a social action project that allows participants an opportunity to give back to their community.

Food, transport and three nights of accommodation are included in the programme cost.
