A two hour fire at Retford train station is now out.

A fire broke out at the embankment near Retford station at 12.30pm at the rear of Bridon Close near Ordsall.

It is believed to have been a grass fire story that was ‘about 20m long’.

Eyewitness Ryan Roberts, is a keen train enthusiast and saw everything unfold.

He said: “I was on the platform at 12.30pm and saw the smoke so went to have a look.
“The smoke was getting so close to the platform and I knew it was bad.

“The station guard rang 999 and the it looked like all the grass was on fire it was about 20m long.

“A freight train had to stop but service trains kept coming through but really slowly so the firemen could work.”
The fire is now out.
