CELEBRATIONS were held at Rother Valley Country Park as the prestigious Green Flag was awarded for the fifth year running.

Similar to the Blue Flag scheme for clean beaches, the Green Flag is the benchmark national standard for green spaces in England and Wales and is only awarded to parks of a high standard.

“We are very pleased to retain this prestigious status and this shows the company’s commitment to continual development of the park for the South Yorkshire and Derbyshire regional communities,” said park manager Ian Dixon.

The award recognises the excellent work done by the park team. Parks are judged on how welcoming they are, if they are healthy, safe, secure, clean and well maintained.

It is also measures how well the park is managed, whether local communities are involved in its development and how sustainable improvements are.

The Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) was at the park for the National Open Water Swimming Event when the award arrived.

The ASA president congratulated the park on the achievement, as did the deputy mayor of Rotherham Council.
