Gainsborough MP Edward Leigh has praised the Gainsborough Standard for helping ‘bind the community’ together.
Speaking during Local Newspaper Week Mr Leigh also warned about changes to press freedom as a result of the Leveson Enquiry.
“I highly commend the service which all local newspapers provide,” he said.
“In this age of distrust with national news outlets, people still feel that they can rely on their local paper for accurate and interesting reporting.”
“This is an unprecedented era of change for all sources of news, as people switch to alternative technologies to gather information, and the Leveson report continues to threaten freedom of the press.”
“Nevertheless the local newspaper continues to succeed – helping to bind all aspects of the community together,” he added.
