PUPILS and staff at St Swithun’s C of E Primary School in Retford have raised almost £1,000 for Cancer Research UK.

The youngsters enjoyed a ‘Pink Day’ as part of Race For Life, the charity’s increasingly popular and effective fundraising drive.

During the day, which started with a ‘Cancer Slam’ dance, they bought a selection of home-made pink cakes, before the entire school took part in its own mini Race For Life.

The day was inspired by three members of staff at the school, including teacher Christa Mitchinson who lost her dad to cancer a few months ago, aged 58.

Mrs Mitchinson said: “The children were absolutely brilliant. They really got into the spirit of charity, helping to raise an incredible amount of money.

“All of the staff at St Swithun’s would like to thank the children and their families for getting involved.”
