A NURSERY manager who has taught thousands of children in Anston has been given our Guardian Rose.

Tina Flack has worked at Anston Pre-School for more than 30 years, and last week she hung up her colourful pinny for the last time.

To help mark her retirement and thank her for all her hard work, her former colleague Audrey Sharman presented her with our rose.

Audrey, who worked with Tina for more than 20 years, said: “She really does deserve the rose.”

“She has been here such a long time and has seen thousands of children go through the nursery.”

As well as receiving the Guardian Rose, Tina was also presented with a huge bunch of flowers from staff and committee members at the nursery.

Kate Codling, said: “We are definitely going to miss her. She is so kind and very warm hearted.”

“She loves the children. She is the heart and sole of the pre-school.”

“We are one big family here and we are going to miss her so much.”

During her final week, former colleagues also popped into the nursery, based at Anston Parish Hall, to wish Tina all the best.

Tina said: “It is lovely and a very big surprise.”

“I’m really looking forward to it (retiring) and looking forward to travelling more. I think I have got to the age where I have to let someone else younger to take over.”

“I won’t feel any different for the next six weeks because we always close for the summer holidays. It will be September when it hits me.”

TIna began at the nursery more than three decades ago, helping out on a voluntary basis.

She added: “I have been working her for 31 years in one capacity or another.”

“I first came to help a couple of days a week and then got into it more. For about the last 20 years I have been the pre-school manager.”

“We have always been a community committee run playgroup.”

“It has grown over the years. It has become a lot more official and there is a lot more paperwork to do.”

“I’d like to thank everyone for all their support over the years - the children, parents, staff and the committee.”
