For all the bad things that are happening in Worksop, there are plenty more in the way of good things.

In this week’s Guardian we have tales of heroism and people overcoming adversity to succeed.

Worksop teenager Andy Franks reacted brilliant when he found a woman bleeding heavily from the neck from a suspected stab wound.

Andy’s quick actions no doubt prevented the man being more seriously injured.

A couple of days later an unknown have -a-go hero leapt to the rescue when a fire tore through a house on Newcastle Avenue.

On Tuesday night I had the pleasure of meeting some more local heroes when I attended the Guardian’s Best in Schools Awards.

It was humbling to be in the presence of so many people who are achieving great things in our local schools.

It is people like this who are the embodiment of what Worksop folk are really all about.

We should be proud of our town, and be proud of its people.
