When I started as a cub reporter at the Worksop Guardian nearly 10 years ago one of the first jobs I went on was up at Langold Country Park.

At the time some work was being done to spruce up the park, and some locals showed me where the former lido was, and there was some talk of maybe breathing new life into it.

It was clear to me then that it would take some major investment to return the park to its former glory.

Nine years on and it has just been announced that nearly £400,000 is being ploughed into new play facilties, including a new water park.

This is excellent news for the Langold community, and the wider area as a whole.

I am a parent of young children and I know what a big difference great facilities like this can mean.

Kids need clean and safe outdoor spaces where they can run around and play with other children. It is what childhood is all about.

It will also give the local community something to be really proud of.

In its heyday Langold Country Park was a thriving and vibrant part of the village, and hopefully this investment will see a return to those glory days.
