A BIRCOTES man who died in a car crash on Friday has been described as a “perfect neighbour”.
Anthony Stephen Cross, of Galway Road, was killed when his silver Rover 45 collided with a wall on Breck Lane, Mattersey Thorpe in the early hours of the morning.
Police were called to the accident at 1.15am, but the 50-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbour and friend Alan Waugh was woken by police at around 3am on Friday, and was asked to identify Mr Cross froma photograph.
“He was a lovely man,” said Mr Waugh.
“We did a few things together. I would help him with his garden and he always used to bring home treats for our dogs. It’s so sad.”
An inquest has been opened and adjourned into his death.
