Motorists in Bawtry and Tickhill have been targeted during a speeding operation.

Police officers from the local Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) carried out a two week operation in May to stop speeding motorists in the area.

The operation was carried out over a number of locations in Finningley, Auckley, Bawtry and Braithwell where residents had complained about speeding motorists.

Warning letters were given to people who were caught speeding slightly over the limit and fixed penalty notices were given to people speeding well over the limit of 30mph.

Over the two weeks, 55 motorists were stopped for speeding with six fixed penalty notices issued.

“The majority of the drivers caught speeding were slightly over the 30mph and received warning letters, however, the six that were given fixed penalty notices were driving over 40mph in a 30mph zone,” said PC Mike Dewsnap from the Bawtry and Tickhill SNT.

“Speeding is not acceptable even if it is only slightly over the limit, and I want to reassure the public that we will continue to run this type of operation and put a stop to speeding motorists.”
