Men charged with stealing £150,000 from mining charity

TWO former officials at the Union of Democratic Mineworkers (UDM) have appeared in court charged with stealing nearly £150,000 from a mining charity.

Neil Greatrex, 59, of from Stanley, near Teversal, Notts and Michael Leslie Stevens, 59, of Rufford Park, Newark both deny four offences of theft from the Notts Miners Home Charity.

It is alleged the pair stole £148,628.83 between 5th June 2000 and May 2006.

Both men appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday and have been released on bail to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday 16th May.

Greatrex is the former president of the UDM and Stevens was general secretary of the Notts UDM.
