A BIRCOTES man stole meat and curtains because he had no money, a court heard.

David William Manship, 29, of Arundel Walk, Bircotes admitted stealing two legs of lamb worth £36.04 from Sainsburys on 8th September.

He also admitted the theft of two sets of curtains worth £75 from B&M Bargains on 18th September.

Andrew Osborne, defending, said: “He has addressed his drug problems but has difficulty with alcohol. He needs to get himself sorted to avoid further offending in the future.”

Manship was given a nine-month conditional discharge with supervision and a six month alcohol treatment programme. He must also pay £25 towards court costs.
