Creswell pupils boosted by new energy-themed books from E.ON

Science and technology learning at Creswell Junior School in Worksop has been energised by the donation of a set of 14 non-fiction and story books from energy company E.ON.

E.ON held a competition for employees to nominate a school to receive this new reading material to help celebrate World Book Day last month.

Alan Wardle, a customer service advisor based at E.ON’s Phoenix Park office in Nottingham, said: “I entered the competition to win the books for Creswell Junior School as my stepson attends the school.

“Since we moved to the area recently, the support from the staff has been brilliant and I felt they deserved a little extra gift.

“Teaching the primary school children about energy at such a young age will help them to become more energy efficient throughout their lives.

“It will also help them to understand about where electricity and gas comes from and how to not waste energy in the future.”

The collection of books, all of which are linked to the theme of energy, were carefully selected with help from a panel of key stage one and key stage two teachers.

Mrs Katie Adamski, head teacher at the school, commented: “Some pupils choose for themselves a reference or factual book when tackling a new topic.

“But for others, energy can sometimes be a bit of a dry subject and for them a story book might be more effective.

“What’s important is that we now have a bigger selection of books to use in support of our teaching of energy and electricity, so all of our pupils should benefit from E.ON’s donation.”

Other schools can access online videos, suggested classroom and home activities and request hands-on workshops delivered in schools, all aimed at encouraging five to 18 year-olds to explore the STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) in an unexpected way through the E.ON Energise Anything! programme.
