Carnival fever is coming to Dinnington and this year’s event looks set to be bigger and better than ever with something for everyone.

The whole community is invited to the Miners’ Welfare Recreation Ground off Lodge Lane on Saturday 8th June, and organisers are praying for sun!

“We’ll have Dowse’s fun fair and lots of entertainment in the main arena,” said carnival committee treasurer Steven Scott. “We’ll have Zumba dancing with Julie Turner Dance School, inflatable games, kids sports races, Jamie’s Ministry of Food doing cooking demos, and even a craft marquee.”

“The youth service will have a special chill-out tent where kids can go for advice on a range of issues.”

“There will be live music and performances throughout the day, including New Young Crew a dance group who won this year’s talent contest at the Lyric Theatre.”

Local businesses and charities will also be represented. Stalls are £10 with charities being offered a pitch for free.

And of course there will be plenty of food and drink, featuring the biggest frying pan in South Yorkshire serving up tasty Lincolnshire sausages. The day promises to be a real sizzler.

But it all starts at 11am at Dinnington Resource Centre with a big summer parade through the town. Uniformed and community groups will march towards the carnival ground.

Said Steve: “We’re looking forward to another great day. Any event we hold on the recreation ground shows it is being used and raises money so we can get it back in community ownership in the future.”
