A man has been jailed for five years for raping a woman in Worksop.

Dean Peacock, 31, of Campbell Close, Worksop, had denied the offence ever occurred but was found guilty by jury of raping the woman on a day in April 2016.

Nottingham Crown Court heard the victim was scared of Peacock and she kept telling him she did not want to have sex.

As well as his prison term Peacock was made subject of an indefinite restraining order.

He was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday 11 April 2017.

Speaking after the sentencing Detective Inspector Ash Wilson said: “We hope Peacock’s conviction and sentence highlights that we take all reports of rape and sexual assault extremely seriously.

“We encourage anyone who has been a victim of a rape or sexual assault - whether it is a recent or non-recent offence - to come forward and report it to us.

“Rape can happen to anyone. Some victims mistakenly think they are to blame, or fear they won’t be taken seriously by police or that their integrity will be questioned.

“Others remain silent out of fear of repercussions from their attacker.

“I can assure them they will be treated with sensitivity, compassion and respect and we can offer them professional support.”

To report an incident in an emergency call 999. In any other situation call the 101 non-emergency number.
