CHIVALROUS pupils of Ranby Primary School brought the legend of King Arthur to life in their musical of What A Knight.
This was no ordinary musical and every pupil in the school had to learn and rehearse the hour-long musical in just five days.
Professional director of The Young Theatre Company, Hayla Hawes, worked with the children throughout the week, auditionin
g, rehearsing and choreographing them to be ready in time for the curtain up.
“It’s been a delight working with the children,” said Mrs Hawes.
“They’re so full of enthusiasm and energy, and really rose to the challenge of putting on a show in just a week.”
Mrs Hawes also praised the staff at the school. “The staff are so dedicated and have worked really hard to help make the show a great success.”
“One teacher even took to the stage in full medieval costume to help support the pupils!”
Around 70 children aged four to 11 wowed packed audiences over the two performances.
The show told the story of a hopeless young squire, Watt Cobblers, who is expelled from Knight School and suddenly finds himself on a quest to find Excalibur, rescue princesses, defeat the Black Knight and save Camelot.
“It’s a fabulous show full of catchy songs, hilarious jokes and crazy characters including some nutty knights, a talking dragon and a magic mirror,” added Mrs Hawes.
“The children had great fun performing it, and from the tears of laughter on so many faces I’m certain the audience loved it too!”
