AN ALTERNATIVE venue for a Post Office is being sought once Clayworth's Post Office closes at the end of the month.
After nearly 25 years of running the Wheatley Road shop, sub-postmaster Maureen Ellis will retire on Wednesday 29th October, and the business will close.
"It will be very strange as working seven days a week has become a way of life, and I will mi
ss seeing the local people every day," said Mrs Ellis, who lives at the Post Office.
Mrs Ellis chose not to sell on the business as it would have meant also selling her home, which is where the Post Office has been situated for 24 and-a-half years.
"I didn't want to give up my home so the Post Office will vacate at the end of the month. Hopefully someone else in the village will want to take it on."
Post Office has appealed to locals to see if there is anyone with a venue interested in running a Post Office in the village.
"We are committed to maintaining a service in this area, and would be keen to speak with any retail partners interested in running a post office," said field change adviser, Alison Wallace.
Anyone interested in the vacancy must be able to provide suitable, alternative premises, and should contact the agency recruitment team on 0845 601 6260.
While the branch is closed, people are advised to use Mattersey Post Office on Main Street, Clarborough Post Office on Main Street, or any branch of their choice.
