The big countdown is under way in Retford and the town's eagerly awaited Charter Day is just around the corner.
Now in its 15th year the event is firmly on the calender as one of the county's biggest crowd puller – leaving both locals and visitors alike breathless because of its sheer size and the quality of its content.

This year follows the tried and tested formula of having two major areas, the Market Square and King's Park – supplemented by a host of peripheral attractions.

Although the event doesn't officially kick-off until 10am on Monday 5th May, a great many visitors are expected to gather early to savour the unique atmosphere as the town takes on a cosmopolitan feel.

Charter Day is all about fun and this year the fun begins with the ever-popular parade as vehicles of all descriptions make their way through town.

And as Mr Punch will no doubt be saying: "That's the way to do it" when his show takes centre stage at 11am .

Then, Harworth Drummers, Scruffs Dog Show and juggling demonstrations follow each other at hourly intervals prior to Uncle Brian's Crazy Car at 3.15pm.

Visitors to King's Park can expect to be entertained by Smokey the Fire Engine at 10.30am, followed by Classical Dressage an hour later.

An afternoon in the park features Harworth Drummers, Smokey and the Fire Engine, the Lions Charity Duck Race and a return visit by Classical Dressage.

Also on offer will be a motor show, vintage tractors, static engines, a fun fair and refreshment stalls.

Don't be misled into thinking that there's nothing else to see. There's the Council Chambers, model boats and a craft fair and refreshments in the Butter Market and a wedding fair in the Town Hall ballroom.

And while you are out and about why not call in at the fire station, Grove Street Methodist and St Swithun's churches, the Courthouse, the Majestic Theatre, or try a guided Town Walk or a trip on a canal boat trip.

Other attractions feature photographic and art displays and face painting for young and old alike.
