BASSETLAW youngsters wanting to hone their footballing skills can do so for free - thanks to weekly Come Play sessions in Retford.
Running until the end of July, the sessions are open to boys and girls aged between eight to 18, and are held from 6-7pm every Wednesday at Spital Hill playing fields.

Project co-ordinator Matt Handley said the scheme aims to train complete beginners to football as well as encouraging youngsters to take the sport to a higher level.

"It's about getting kids off the streets and getting them active with fun and structured footballing lessons," he said.

"With any luck we can start them off on the right path and give them the right guidance towards playing for a club one day."

The sessions are organised through the Footballing Chance project, which is also funded by voluntary crime reduction organisation NACRO and Bassetlaw Council's Sports Development Unit.

They kicked off in early April in Retford, Carlton-in-Lindrick and Gateford, Worksop and will be followed by a new season in September.

Anyone interested in signing up for the free footballing sessions should contact Matt Handley on 01777 713889 or 07813 313291.
