WHODUNNIT fans who missed ‘Go Back For Murder’ at Chesterfield have another chance to catch the touring version as it stops at the Curve, Leicester, until this Saturday (30th March).
This, the eighth production from the official Agatha Christie Theatre Company, comes with an all-star cast of TV and theatre favourites headed by Sophie Ward (‘Hustle’ and ‘New Tricks’) as Carla La Marchant who is determined to uncover the truth behind a family secret as she investigate the death of her mother who died in prison while serving life for murdering her ladies’ man husband, Amyas Crale (Gary Mavers who many remember from ‘Peak Practice’).
If all this sounds familar, it’s a skilful re-working of the Queen of Crime’s novel ‘Five Little Pigs’ starting the story in the London of the Swinging 60s and then moving the plot back 20 years with Ms Ward in the dual role playing Carla’s mother, Caroline Crale, who is convicted for the murder of her artist husband who said he was going to leave her and marry his young model, Elsa Greer (Lysette Anthony whose TV appearances have ranged from ‘Holby City’ to a long run in the sitcom ‘Three Up, Two Down’).
Others implicated in this story of deception stretching back over two decades include Robert Duncan (‘Drop the Dead Donkey’), Ben Nealon (‘Soldier, Soldier’) and Liza Goddard, who seems just at home in Restoration comedy on stage as she is in being a suspect in ‘Midsomer Murders’ on TV.
