Thank you helpers
We’d like to begin this week’s column by saying a big thank you.
Thank you to the conscientious members of the public who helped PCSO Gina Fletcher during an altercation.
It happened on the afternoon of Saturday 2nd February when she was hit across the face while directing an intoxicated man to leave the area.
A passer-by came to her assistance and an arrest was made. And a 43-year-old local man has been charged with assaulting an accredited person and bailed, with conditions.
PCSO Fletcher was not injured or deterred and is back patrolling Worksop’s streets.
It’s not the first time a member of the public has helped us in the line of duty and off the back of this incident we’d like to thank all those who help us every single day, whether it’s reporting suspicious activity or assisting in missing person searches.
We find that most people are quick to help wherever they can and it really does make our jobs ten times easier and much more productive.
It is also encouraging to feel supported by those we serve.
On the topic of how you can help us, we would like to appeal to you all to keep your eyes and ears open for any suspicious activity around pubs.
This is following a number of break-ins at pubs in the town centre and the wider Bassetlaw area.
We also suggest landlords take a closer look at the security of your premises. Lock all doors and windows of your business on closure. Where possible install and use alarms and CCTV and don’t leave cash on the premises, including in tills and games machines.
Call us at the station on 101, extension 8077116/7 for advice on how to better protect your business.
If you have received an unsolicited approach to buy items you think may be stolen — specifically Bollinger champagne or Castella cigars which were stolen from one of the pubs — call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
