A right royal banquet meal

Diners enjoy a delicious Chinese banquet at Mandarin Palace

On arriving at the Mandarin Palace it was obvious since our last visit that the new owners Candy and Simon Lin had already made a real difference to the restaurant.

We were greeted by the staff and led to our table which was placed perfectly so that we had a little privacy but were still able to enjoy the ambiance of the restaurant.

Great emphasis was placed on a warm welcome with excellent and attentive service . And then set menu for our banquet was fine indeed.

We started with the hors d’oeuvres - a selection of mouthwatering starters including Spare Ribs, Seaweed, Spring rolls Sweet Chilli Chicken and Prawn Toast.

We had time to chat and eat at our leisure and then after a short break moved on to the second course - Crispy Duck with Pancakes and plum sauce - absolutely beautiful.

Everything was so fresh and tasty it was obvious that the menu had been created to tease your tastebuds from the start.

The restaurant was filling up nicely and a bonus for the evening was a Chinese gentleman who had been invited for the evening who scripted our names in Chinese - a lovely way to create a special memory of our evening.

Throughout our meal the staff came to us to check that all was well with our food - no problems there Candy. Music played its part in creating the atmosphere in The Mandarin and we all relaxed whilst our main meal was prepared to order . The choices were superb - ranging from Scallops, Chicken Szechuan, Sweet and sour Chicken to Sizzling Fillet steak with black bean sauce including many others .

The Steak was my choice and was excellent and by the time we had all finished tasting each others meals I had to admit I felt as though I could eat no more.

It was hard to refuse dessert - a platter of fruit and marshmallow with the most beautiful chocolate fondue I have ever tasted. Simply divine.

This was rounded of by a coffee and a discussion of how much we had enjoyed the evening and how it would be perfect for families and couples alike.
