CROWDED HOUSE took just the right sort of weather with them to play among the trees of Sherwood Forest.
Fans old and young had a hearty sing-along to hit singles It's Only Natural, Four Seasons in One Day, and Everywhere you Go - and I think even the trees were swaying in time.

Between tunes, the band broached subjects from scantily-clad teenagers to stuffed animals and Richard and Judy.

The venue was well-stewarded and my car was parked just three minutes’ walk from the main stage.

There were notable lulls with less well-known songs but Crowded House - who reformed in 2006 - have been in the game long enough to know their audiences well.

Every time the tempo dipped, there was a song, or a quirky tale to bring the applause back and get the crowd moving again.

It was a night to remember which worked across generations, and proof that British outdoor venues are not always a wash-out.

In short, a great band at an unbeatable venue and I will certainly be checking out the listings to see who is playing there next year.
