WORKSOP'S The Crossing hopes to hit all the right notes when it celebrates its second birthday in fine musical style on Saturday 10th May.
As one of the town’s busiest church and community venues, it is looking forward to welcoming the acclaimed Doncaster Youth and Swing Orchestra to commemorate its special celebrations.

Founded by John Ellis MBE, and a part of the Doncaster Youth Jazz Association (DYJA), the Swing Orchestra has delighted foot-tapping audiences both in the UK and abroad with their blend of traditional and modern swing music.

A DYJA spokesman said they were really looking forward to helping The Crossing get its birthday celebrations off to a swinging start.

”The young musicians really enjoy playing music to a very high standard from the swing era, as well as the modern big band repertoire,” he said.

The concert is part of The Crossing’s ‘Focus on Young Musicians’ series within its wider ‘Music at The Crossing’ programme.

Concert programmer David Jordan said The Crossing was always seeking to help talented young people find their musical feet in the early stages of their career.

”During 2008 there are at least 30 high quality concerts at The Crossing which cater for a variety of musical tastes. It’s great to be able to encourage musicians of the future like the brilliant 17-year-old old pianist Julian Clef,” he said.

”And the forthcoming evening on 7th June which will help 13-year-old Will Dutton – BBC Radio 2’s ‘Chorister of the Year 2006’ – to tour as a violinist in the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain.”

Tickets for the 7.30pm Swing Orchestra concert on Saturday 10th May are priced £8, £6 and £4 for children and students.

They can be purchased at The Crossing’s welcome desk on Newcastle Avenue, Worksop, by emailing info@crossingmusic.orgor by calling 01909 475421.
