BAWTRY

Quiz Night:

St Nicholas Church, Bawtry is holding a Quiz Night at St Nicholas Church Hall, Church Walk, Bawtry at 7pm on Saturday 31st May.

As well as the quiz there is a Ploughman's Supper. For further details telephone the vicarage on 01302 710298.

Alan Ayckbourn at the Phoenix:

The next production for Bawtry Amateur Dramatic Society will be Alan Ayckbourn's play A Snake in the Grass.

The play, with a cast of three women, will be produced by Edward Burroughs and there will be performances at 7.30pm from 17th to 24th May at the Phoenix Theatre in Station Road, Bawtry.

Tickets priced at 6 and 12 for the buffet performance on 24th May can be obtained from the Spar Shop in Station Road, Bawtry.

Bawtry Whist Club winners:

Members turned out in force last Thursday with 10 tables occupied for the weekly whist session. Anne Fox, Betty Green and Sylvia Williams won through in the Ladies Section to take the prizes with Vi Brown having the consolation of the low score award.

In the Gents Section Alma Beresford, Brian Wilkinson and Eve Harrison were the successful players with Joan Wilkinson taking the low score award. Raffle prizes went to Bill Osborne, Ellis Nottingham and Sylvia Williams.

TICKHILL

Local walk:

This week the Tickhill and District Footpath Group will hold their weekly walk on Monday evening in the Stainton area.

Everyone is welcome and should meet leader Susan Lee at Tickhill Buttercross in Sunderland Street, Tickhill at 7pm.

On Wednesday 21st May the Group will hold an open evening at Tickhill Parish Room where there will be a display of the group's work and visitors can learn what the group does in the area.

There will be free refreshments and the evening commences at 7pm.

Clumber history revealed:

Christine Greenwood will give a talk on Clumber Park and the Newcastle family at the next meeting of Tickhill's Local History Society on Thursday 15th May at 7.30pm at the Tickhill Methodist Church Schoolroom.

Election results:

Local man Bob Ford, standing as a Conservative candidate for the Torne Valley Ward of Doncaster Council was elected as district councillor after securing 2,122 votes a majority of 1529 over the Labour party candidate Hilary Susanne McNamee on 593 votes.

Derek Anthony Markham, Liberal Democrat, polled 536, John Swann Wallis of the English Democrats 449, David Arthur Cooper, UKIP 276 and Gillian Scott of the Green Party 144.

The turnout in the ward, which covers Tickhill, Bawtry and the surrounding areas, was 42.5 per cent.

There was a similar turnout in the Finningley ward where 41.2 per cent of the electorate showed their confidence in the incumbent district councillor Yvonne Woodcock by re-electing her with a majority of 1,296 over the English Democrat candidate Peter Davies who polled 1,033 votes.

Ian Barltrop the Labour party candidate received 560 votes, Michelle Goodman for the Liberal Democrats 379 votes and Lyn Hunter Independent 345 with Karen French-Kelly of the Green party polling 138 votes.

MISTERTON

Misterton School's Midsummer Ball:

A Midsummer Ball on Saturday 21st June will mark the high point of the summer for Misterton Primary School as well as raising funds for activities at the school.

Guests will be treated to a sit-down buffet, live music, bar, raffle and auction all for the price of 20 per person.

There is an opportunity for local companies to sponsor a table and donate a raffle prize in return for publicity for the organisation.

Information and tickets are available through the school office and cheques should be made payable to Misterton Primary HSA.

Citizen of the Year:

Misterton's Citizen of 2008 will be announced at Misterton Parish Council's annual meeting on Tuesday 13th May when the awards will be presented.

Once again there will be awards for the under 18s and over 18s, but this year there is an additional award to the person not living in Misterton but who has made a real contribution to life in the village.

The annual meeting is residents chance to hear what the council has accomplished during the year and to see who has won the Citizen of the Year awards which will be presented in the Church Room at 7.30pm.
