BAWTRY
Party in the Park:
Bawtry Mayflower Animal Sanctuary and the St Leger Horse Park are combining to put on a day of entertainment and music at the Northern Racing College at the Great North Road, Bawtry.
The party will run from 4.30-9.30pm. Tickets costing 15 for adults, 9 children and OAPs or 40 for a family are available from the Mayflower Animal Sanctuary or the Dome at Doncaster.
Sports Day results:
There was a full programme of children's races at Bawtry Sports Day last Saturday and results were: Beanbag and dustpan race – Aiden Tomlinson, Tilley Ussery, Adam Wilson, Elliot Tong, Molly Jenkins and Zac Allen; Three legged race – Shane Longworth and Matthew Warren, Molly Jenkins and Emma Rigby and Joshua Teal and Gary Turner. Under fives novelty race – Aaron Palmer and Brody Scholes; Sprint races – Lance Holden and Amyrose Broughton, Daniel Challoner, Grace Clark, Elliot Tong, Molly Jenkins, Donal O'Leary and Evie Burton; Family fun race – John and Maxwell Davidson; 1,500 metres – winner Gavin Hodgson, runner-up Kyle Robinson.
The five-a-side football was won by Maltby Zion B and the highest scorer was James Frost with eight goals. Mini Cricket winners were the Bawtry Crusaders team of Ian Love, Stephen Lloyd, Luke Challoner, Michael McGrail, Thomas Chadwick and Joshua Chadwick and then highest scorer was Dan Hurst. Welly throwing winners were Megan Jenkins, Luke Pepper, Harriet Jones and Mike McGrail.
Folk and Blues at the Phoenix:
The next Folk and Blues evening at the Phoenix Theatre at Station Road, Bawtry on Saturday 5th July will feature the acclaimed folk singer and guitarist Chris White, who will be supported by Occasional Quartet consisting of Rebecca on flute, Reg and Garry on guitar and Barrie vocals. The concert starts at 7.45pm and tickets costing 8 can be purchased from the Spar Shop, Station Road, Bawtry or by ringing Barrie on 01302 770992.
Bawtry Whist Club results:
Once again there was a strong turn out for Bawtry Whist Club's regular Thursday evening round of games at Bawtry New Hall. Betty McHugh, Margaret Byard and Dorah Littlewood filled the first three places in the Ladies Section with Helen Scott taking the consolation prize for the low score. Joe Foote, Hugh Mulligan and Bill Hollinshead won through for the Gents with Ellis Nottingham taking the low score award. Raffle prizes went to Helen Scott Joe Foote and Anne Fox.
TICKHILL
Tickhill Gala run: Tickhill Running and Athletic Club will hold a 3.5 mile run on a multi terrain course starting and finishing at Tickhill Gala at Tithes Lane recreation ground on Saturday 5th July.
The run, which is on mainly traffic free routes, will commence at 3pm and there is an entry fee of 3 for competing members or 5 for unattached runners. There will be a medal for all finishers and prizes including a hamper.
Entries have to be submitted by 29th June and can be handed in at Taylor's in Tickhill Market Place.
Open gardens:
Sunday 13th July will be Open Gardens Day in Tickhill and a programme is available at St Mary's Church, Tickhill, Fenton's Butchers, Juicy fruit and KSM in Tickhill. Refreshments will be served from 1-5pm in St Mary's Church and all proceeds will go to the Church Heritage Fund.
Weekly walk:
Tickhill and District Footpath Group will visit Hooton Roberts on Monday 30th June for their evening walk. Everyone is welcome and those wishing to join in should meet leader Mick Green at Hooton Roberts Church at 7pm.
MISTERTON
Misterton Village Gala:
Misterton Village Gala will be held on Saturday 5th July and will include a dog show, tug-of-war, corps of drummers, children's dance troupe, and belly dancers.
The Notts Police dog handling team will be back by popular request, and there will be dozens of stalls with plenty for children and adults alike. If there is rain the events will take place indoors. The gala is on the Old School site at Misterton and starts at 12 noon, when TV presenter, Carolyn Hodgson, will open the event and judge the children's art competition.
Chairs for sale:
The Misterton Community Trust, the charity which is responsible for the Village Hall and Victoria Institute in Misterton, is selling 150 chairs and is looking for offers of a minimum of 1 a chair.
There are two types of chair, tubular steel with padded seats and plastic chairs. They can be viewed in Misterton Village Hall on Friday 4th July between 10am and 12 noon. Keys for the village hall are in The Misterton Centre if any one wishes to view.
More floral thefts: Following on from the theft of Misterton Parish Council's planted tubs, a resident has reported the theft of two hanging baskets in the same area of the village. Residents are advised to make their floral decorations, including flower pots, difficult to steal and so discourage thieves.
Arts Festival in Misterton:
Misterton will host three free events on Saturday 26th July as part of Bassetlaw Arts Festival.
At 2pm acclaimed local author, Stephen Booth, will be at the library to talk about his books, and answer questions.
Tea is provided, but numbers are limited so call the library to book on 01427 890646. From 4-6pm there is a workshop for young musicians aged 8-18 years aimed at giving experience of playing, song writing, and performing. The workshop will be led by local band, The Torn, and is at Misterton Sports Social Club.
Numbers are limited to 10 and those interested should telephone 01427 891376 for further information and to book a place.
The Torn will also give a free concert at Misterton Sports Social Club at 9pm. The concert will include the young musicians who have been part of the workshop earlier in the day.
No tickets are required and anyone wanting to hear the band can just turn up.
Police surgery:
Anyone who wishes to speak to the police can do so at the Misterton Centre between 10am and 12 noon on Saturday 5th July when Notts Police will hold a surgery.
