BAWTRY
Mayor presents Business Awards:
Bawtry mayor, town councillor George Spencer last week presented the Excel Shield to Helen Thomson, manageress of Bawtry Natural Health which won the award for the best window display over the Christmas period.
Mrs Thomson said: "I am very pleased to have won this award and I hope we can win again next year. Bawtry is a very busy place, especially during the evening, and I would like to see the shops and businesses opening for late evening shopping especially in the summer time."
The mayor also presented certificates to The Barbers Shop on Swan Street and Bawtry Shoes as runners up in the Best Window Display.
Lock it or lose it:
Community constable Mark Sowerby has warned car owners in Bawtry that they will become victims of theft if they do not pay more attention to crime prevention.
Pc Sowerby revealed that 143 car owners have had crime prevention advice in the last month after property was left on view in vehicles or vehicles were left unlocked.
Car crime accounted for a quarter of all crime in Bawtry over the last month with nine thefts from vehicles reported to police as well as three thefts of vehicles, all of which have since been recovered.
Pc Sowerby has also urged householders to make use of 'smart water' as a crime prevention tool.
"None of the criminals I talk to like 'smart water' and I think it is a brilliant piece of kit. It helps to trace owners of stolen property and to secure convictions against those who would otherwise get off," said Pc Sowerby.
Whist Club winners:
Despite the dismal weather it was all cheer at Bawtry Whist Club's regular Thursday evening meeting at the New Hall in Bawtry.
Norah Archibald, Norah Littlewood and Sylvia Williams were the Ladies Section winners and Dennis Mellow, Vi Brown and David Stacey were successful for the Gents.
Low score awards went to Brenda Osborne and Bob Breacher with Betty McHugh, Joan Wilkinson and Gladys Dewsnap winning raffle prizes.
TICKHILL
Ramblers AGM:
The Tickhill and District Footpath Group will hold its AGM on Thursday 7th February in the Tickhill Methodist Church Schoolroom.
All are welcome to go along to discuss the future direction of this popular group which organises weekly walks in the Tickhill area and further afield, arranges periodic coach trips and other social events as well as protecting rights of way in the area.
Anyone wishing to attend is asked to contact Brian Stevens on 01302 745533. There will be a free pie and pea supper.
MISTERTON
Council meeting:
A Meeting of Misterton Parish Council's General Purposes Committee will take place in Misterton Church Room at 7.30pm on Tuesday 29th January.
Residents are welcome to attend and can raise matters of concern with the council.
At this meeting the council will set the precept for the village, and council chairman Hazel Brand has announced that although no change in the precept from last year is recommended, a number of schemes planned by the council will have to be put on hold.
In setting the precept the Council has planned for further legal costs relating to the Station Road common land issue, continued funding for the upkeep of the Village Hall and Victoria Institute and legal and valuation costs for the anticipated sale of the Village Hall.
Local surgeries:
Local MP John Mann will hold a surgery at the Misterton Centre on Friday 1st February from 10.30am to 12 noon.
Local district councillor Ray Simpson will hold his surgery at the centre on Wednesday 6th February between 10.30am and 12 noon.
Gravelholes Lane to close:
Improvements to the drainage at the junction of Gravelholes Lane and Grovewood Road, Misterton will be followed by resurfacing which will mean that the road will be closed from Monday 11th February for approximately two weeks.
Parish Council takes on road safety:
Misterton Parish Council has for some time been asking Notts County Council to take action to curb the speed of traffic along Walkeringham Road as it enters the village.
Many residents have complained about traffic speed with some alleging that buses are the main culprits.
A request for interactive speed warning signs at that location has been turned down by the county council, so parish councillors will carry out an independent survey of traffic, both approaching Newell's Terrace and on Haxey Road.
FINNINGLEY
New councillor sworn in:
Finningley resident Richard Johnson was last week co-opted on to Finningley Parish Council as a replacement for parish councillor Kevin Honcherenko who resigned last month due to business and family commitments.
Councillor Johnson is the leader of Finningley Youth Club which was established last year and has quickly become a favorite place to go for 8 to 13 years old Finningley children.
No increase in precept:
Finningley parish councillors have voted to make no increase in the amount that they ask Finningley council tax payers to contribute to the running of the parish council.
Councillors agreed to budget 1,000 for path works around the village pond with a 2,000 contingency for unforeseen work on the pond and 3,500 as a general contingency making the precept 21,000 for the fifth year in a row.
