BAWTRY
Mayor fails to turn up
Doncaster's elected mayor Martin Winter was unable to attend the meeting of Bawtry Town Council due to a bereavement which left a large number of residents who had turned out to hear what he had to say disappointed.
The mayor was due to address the town council on quality councils, the lack of adequate liaison between Doncaster and Bawtry and unadopted roads in the town.
Several residents of Spring Gardens at Bawtry had turned out to hear if Doncaster Council was to honour its pledge of taking over their unadopted road which mayor Winter made his priority during his first term of office.
Bawtry town mayor George Spencer said: "There were quite a few members of the public there and I have every sympathy for them, but they can be assured that mayor Winter will be invited to every town council meeting until he can attend one of them."
Supermarket gets go ahead
Despite a 624 name petition from Bawtry residents and business people against plans for a supermarket on the site of Bawtry Motor Auctions, the detailed plans were approved by Doncaster Council planning officers on 7th October.
The supermarket had already been given outline planning permission but the petitioners were hoping to raise sufficient objections to the detailed planning to defeat the project.
It is not known which company will construct the supermarket but it is understood that more than one supermarket chain is interested.
Bawtry Motor Auctions are still operating from the site until their new premises at Retford are completed.
EVERTON
Housing project still on track
Everton Parish Council is pressing ahead with plans for affordable housing at Everton with the next key date in the process being the end of November by which time councillors hope that a site will have been identified.
It is understood that discussions are underway with a landowner in Everton where it would be possible to construct six affordable units.
WEST STOCKWITH
Charity success
The Children's Charity Wish Upon A Star benefited to the tune of 1,800 from a day of fundraising which was held on Saturday 7th September in West Stockwith.
Waterfront Country Park camp site held a table top sale in the morning and in the evening there was a fun event in West Stockwith Village Hall with karaoke and auction, dancing and a buffet which was well attended and enjoyed by all.
A cheque was handed over last week at West Stockwith Village Hall to the Charity's local organiser Pat Wright by camp site owner Paul Burrows, who said: "I would like to thank everyone who turned out and made the day such a success. We are very pleased and will definitely be repeating the event next year."
The money will be used by Wish Upon A Star to make dreams come true for children with life threatening illnesses and Pat Wright said: "The charity is delighted to receive this money, which will go towards making dreams come true for children in this locality."
"The money raised is sufficient to send six children to Lapland at Christmas."
