BAWTRY

Mayor in town

Doncaster's elected mayor Martin Winter was due to accept an invitation from Bawtry Town Council this week and attend the town council meeting on Tuesday.

The mayor was due to answer previously submitted questions from town councillors on several issues including the closure of the town's public conveniences and the centralisation of services away from Bawtry Library.

Airport expansion prompts response

Following the circulation of a leaflet urging Bawtry residents to write to their local representatives about a possible expansion of all night freight flights by noisier Quota Count Four aircraft at Robin Hood Airport, several residents have contacted both MP Caroline Flint and Bawtry Town Council.

Ms Flint has written to all Bawtry residents pointing out that freight services were always planned to be one of Robin Hood Airport's strengths.

Ms Flint says that while no QC 4 aircraft are allowed to use Robin Hood that is unusual for any UK airport and represents a higher standard than operates elsewhere.

However, none of the London airports allows QC4 aircraft to operate at night which is what Peel Airports is planning to ask Doncaster Planners to allow.

Twenty two residents have contacted Bawtry Town Council which has agreed that a letter should be sent to Doncaster Council's planning officer, Andy Gutherson, requesting proper consultation prior to any application being determined and expressing the concerns put forward by residents on the noise and traffic implications.

Peel Airports has said that it has had difficulty attracting freight contracts because of the restrictions on night flying.

Allotments reallocated

Following complaints from persons on the waiting list for Bawtry Town Council allotments that some plots were not being worked, two existing tenants have been given notice to quit and the allotments have been reallocated to residents on the waiting list.

In a new get tough policy the Town Council has also written to a further tenant giving one month for work to be carried out or the allotment will be forfeited.

Whist winners

There was a full turn out at Thursday evening's session of Bawtry Whist Club at the New Hall, Bawtry, when organiser Elsie Foote took first prize in the ladies section.

She was joined by Sheila Williams and Helen Scott, with Bill Hollinshead, Brian Wilkinson and Elsie Keeble taking the gents prizes.

Low score awards went to Joan Smith and Joyce Williams.

Raffle prizes were won by Bill Osborne, Christine Merrick and Jane Barker.

MISSON

Clock keeps ticking

Misson Parish Church clock will keep functioning for the next year due to the generosity of Misson Parish Council which last week voted to award a grant of 195 to pay for upkeep of the clock.

Historically the council has paid for the clock to be wound but since it was automated there has been an annual charge to be paid.

Councillors agreed that the clock was a benefit to the community and worthy of support.

Planning

Parish councillors had no objection to a proposal to modify plans of a detached dwelling adjacent to Misson Mill.

They did however object to the design of a planned barn conversion at Middle Farm, Spring Road, Misson, which they thought was not in keeping with the original building.

WEST STOCKWITH

Big Coffee Morning

The West Stockwith Big Coffee Morning on Friday 26th September raised a total of 148.31.

Organiser Auriol Bird said: "I would like to thank very much everyone who contributed and for their generosity. I hope we will see them all again next year and that they will bring more friends with them."

Candle Party

The next event at West Stockwith Parish Hall is a Candle Party which will take place on Tuesday 14th October when there will be ideas for Christmas presents on show.

MISTERTON

Senior Citizens Party

The organisers of Misterton's annual party for senior citizens are keen to make sure that those who have recently reached the qualifying age, or are new to the village, are invited.

So that no one is left off the invitation list, those who qualify are asked to let the organisers know by contacting Zo Bott, 21 Old Forge Road, Misterton.

The qualifying age is 65 for a man, whose wife of any age can accompany him, and 65 for women on their own as at 1st December 2008.

The party, afternoon tea and entertainment all free of charge will be held early in 2009. Invitations are sent out later this year.
