TICKHILL

Consultation on freight flights

District Councillor Bob Ford, Tickhill and Bawtry's newest borough councillor has said that there will be a lot of consultation on any proposal submitted by Peel Airports to vary the Section 106 agreement to allow the airport to operate freight flights at night.

Councillor Ford said: "I have had lots of complaints about noise and the possible night flights and the noise likely to happen with the noisiest of planes that could be used for freight, but a lot of consultation will take place."

Any application for relaxation of the terms of the legal agreement which at the moment forbids the take off of Quota Count Four aircraft at night from Robin Hood Airport would have to go before the planning committee at Doncaster Council, but as yet Robin Hood Airport, although they have intimated they may do so has not submitted any formal application.

Tickhill Library celebrates centenary

A library was opened in Tickhill one hundred years ago this year and is still going strong in the same building which has the date, 1908 engraved over the door.

Although for a few years the library operated in a temporary building across the road in Tickhill Market Place it returned to a newly refurbished building and has gone from strength to strength ever since.

The Library not only lends books but serves as a meeting room, a service centre for Doncaster Council and even has toilets which can be used by any member of the public.

To celebrate its centenary the library will hold an open day on Tuesday 7th October between 2pm and 5pm when among other things there will be a children's painting competition with book token prizes donated by Tickhill Town Council.

Christmas arrangements

Tickhill Town Council has confirmed that there will be the usual Carol Service at Tickhill Buttercross on Christmas Eve this year.

The Christmas Tree at the Buttercross will be illuminated and the lights will be switched on Saturday 27th November.

The Award will comprise a cup to be held for one year and replaced with a permanently engraved plaque, together with a cash award of 150.

Gringley Parish Council has decided to enter Gringley Wharf into this year's competition after the area next to the Chesterfield Canal was renovated with the aid of a grant from Notts County Council and help from council archaeologists.
