Enjoying a holiday in Blackpool
Worksop friends on holiday in Blackpool, 1966
THIS photo shows a group of young Worksop friends enjoying a holiday in Blackpool in 1966.
It was sent in by Michael Nunn (third left) who was 19 at the time.
Pictured with him (left to right) are Graham Wright, Ray Morris, David Spencer, Michael Parkin and Roger Merrick.
Mr Nunn, 65, of Anston Avenue, Worksop, remembers the holiday well because it ended on the Saturday that England won the World Cup.
He said: “We had been watching the match on a TV in the bed and breakfast where we were staying, but then it was time for us to leave, so we had to switch off before it had finished.”
“We found out the result when we stopped at the services in Preston.”
Mr Nunn said the group of friends used to go on a week’s holiday together every year.
“This picture was taken by a street photographer as we were heading for a night out. We dressed up smart in those days,” he said.
At the time he was working for Sydney Brown’s plasterers and building firm in Worksop, along with Mr Wright, Mr Spender and Mr Merrick.
Mr Morris was a painter and decorator and Mr Parkin was a bricklayer.
Mr Nunn, who grew up in Manton and is married to Carol, has three children, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
