I see that Worksop have finally managed to secure themselves a home for the forthcoming season.
This is undoubtedly good news for all of Bassetlaw, and for the fans of both teams in particular.
Whilst one or two idiots will doubtless try to stoke up some sort of animosity between the two sets of fans as the season goes on, the clubs themselves have always maintained a good relationship, and I for one genuinely wish them well in their bid to their bid to find a permanent home.
There was never any chance of a ground share at Cannon Park, for a number of reasons, but as club after club declined to offer assistance, the search became almost farcical.
From a distance, it bore all the hall marks of an Ealing comedy. I doubt it was quite so funny for those involved though, and I wouldn't want to swap places with Tigers' fans.
Bad luck seems to have followed Worksop around for several years now, and those troubled times have certainly coincided with unprecedented good fortune on our side of the A1.
Be it the care-free investment of Mr Vivien, or the incredible generosity of Mr Dixon, RUFC have had the good fortune that appears to have escaped our neighbours from Sandy Lane.
Obviously I am hoping for a continuation of our good luck. If it's true that you make your own luck, then things are coming into place for us to be able to ensure good fortune for years to come.
And the longer Worksop are unable to do the same, the more the balance of power within Bassetlaw football will swing in our favour.
2009-10 promises to be a major season for both clubs. Worksop have to see survival as their priority.
Retford may well be setting their sights significantly higher than that.
